Window World's MerleFest sponsorship to aid in new Ashe Campus expansion at Wilkes Community College

April 17, 2017

Window World®, America’s largest replacement window and exterior remodeling company, continues its commitment as presenting sponsor of the legendary MerleFest music festival in 2017. As the primary fundraising event for the Wilkes Community College Foundation (WCCF), which works to raise funds for Wilkes Community College (WCC), this year’s MerleFest, in conjunction with Window World, will open a new chapter of educational development at the college with the expansion of its Ashe Campus facilities.
With a shared home of Wilkes County, North Carolina, Window World and MerleFest work to provide constant support for the local community. Window World has been the festival’s highest level sponsor since 2015 and is committed to supporting MerleFest in that capacity through 2021.

The proceeds generated from this year’s festival will go towards renovating the facilities at one of WCC’s satellite campuses in Ashe County, North Carolina. The Ashe Campus expansion will bring a 30,000-square-feet addition to the building currently in use. Included in the new plans are a vast increase in general classroom space, a state-of-the-art healthcare simulation lab, a chemistry and physics lab, a cosmetology lab and potentially an Early College High School.
With healthcare programs at the campus in increasing demand, the new healthcare simulation lab will give students the opportunity to gain invaluable experience in a simulated hospital environment. The chemistry and physics lab will allow the WCC Ashe Campus to offer a full Associate in Science degree for the first time in its history, and the Early College High School will be a fully-operational high school where students can obtain their high school diploma and associate degree in only five years with no additional cost included.

“We are excited about these new opportunities for our community and look forward to welcoming many more students to their local college in Ashe for postsecondary education,” said Allison Phillips, executive director of the Wilkes Community College Foundation.

This year’s MerleFest marks the 30th celebration of the annual event, and it will take place April 27-30. With its roots in traditional, bluegrass and Americana music, MerleFest has expanded in recent years to include musical artists from multiple genres including blues, country and rock. The festival expects to see over 80,000 guests this year from around the world. Highlights from this year’s scheduled performers include the Zac Brown Band, The Transatlantic Sessions hosted by Jerry Douglas and Aly Bain featuring James Taylor, and the The Avett Brothers.
